Interactive Poems

  • Zigzag Froggy

Poem about a froggy whose legs can’t go straight. They can only go sideways, which poses problems for him in keeping up with his friends and feeling like everyone else. He shares how much he tries and closes with the sentiment that not all is bad when you’re a Zigzag Froggy.

  • How to Make Poems Come Alive

Start Simple: Read poem together first, learn a few movements at a time, let kids suggest their own actions.

Practice Song: Practice singing together and doing small hand and dance moves. Let kids create their own dance moves too.

Performance Ideas: Family poetry shows, classroom morning meetings, playdates, recording videos for grandparents.

“Rhyming Corner is a favorite when I conduct workshops with the Beat Children’s Theatre. For me, it was wonderful to see the less outspoken kids really blossom during this activity.

Each of these lessons is ready to go! You can either show my Rhyming Corner videos for your children to have a Brain Break, or as a support to another lesson plan. Or you can access printed resources and conduct your own Rhyming Corners.”
